Black Ocean's Special Offer

special offer from Black Ocean:

-----------------------------
Dear Black Oceanographers,

In honor of all you stranded in various parts of the country due to the blizzards (or anticipated blizzards) sweeping across the Eastern half, I'd like to offer a free copy of PIGAFETTA IS MY WIFE with EVERY purchase made between 11:59a on 12/26 and 11:59p on 12/27 (EST).

Why PIGAFETTA IS MY WIFE? These poems fragment the journals of Antonio Pigafetta, a 16th Century traveler who recorded Magellan's hellish circumnavigation of the globe, while tracking a present-day speaker and his beloved as they are distanced and reunited across the map.

Find it, and other titles in our catalog. Make your purchase within the alloted time-frame and we'll automatically include a copy of PIGAFETTA IS MY WIFE with your order. And as always:SHIPPING IS FREE!

A Sad Heart Still Sings

Every week the Puerto Vallarta Tribune publishes a poem by Adelaide Blomfield.

Here's her latest offering---

A Sad Heart Still Sings

I miss you in many places:

A leaf-sodden plaza
A field of birds
A white-waved sea.

(And in the sky
A bird still flies
And lovers watch
It leave their view.)

You are forever these:

The leaves and rain,
Sun and shadow,
The lost lovers

And always the song caught
In the throat of a small bird.

Harold Bloom, in his The Western Cannon, notes that the trollish Henrik Ibsen kept a scorpion in a glass on his desk.

Retiring from Poetry (going into the joke making business)

Announcement:

i'm retiring from Poetry to focus on making up jokes.

here's my first effort:

--------------------------------------------------
A man goes to a restaurant where nine forks are nailed on to the front door.

This pisses him off and he demands to talk to the owner.

When the owner arrives he starts in on him right away.

"what the hell's going on here?" he snaps. "there are nine forks on the door?"

"Si, senor," the owner replies. "Si, senor."

The man loses it.

"This is totally fcking insane," he barks out.
"There are supposed to be Ten-a-Door!"

(for whatever it's worth my mother thinks this is quite funny)
